Swedish singer-songwriter Sophie Zelmani is celebrating her 25th year as a recording artist.
Zelmani rose to the top of the charts almost overnight, with her debut album released by Sony in 1995. Despite of being known as shy, she quickly reached an audience all over Europe and Asia with her tender singer/songwriter and country sound. Her debut has a flavor of early Van Morrison but Zelmani wrote all the songs and with her clear and fragile voice gave them an air of sincerity.
In spring 2019, Sophie Zelmani released her twelfth album “Sunrise”, in close collaboration with guitarist, producer and arranger Lars Halapi, with whom she has a deep musical understanding and mutual trust over the years. Halapi is known for his work with Ulf Lundell and Bo Kaspers Orkester.
Like every artist, Zelmani’s music has developed over the years but she never lost her roots. It's still Sophie singing with the same magic as in 1995. With her gentle, sometimes whispering voice she illuminates the dark sides of love and life in soulful and melancholic songs.
”Sophie’s music has always had a sense of heartfelt intimacy and mystique that's intriguing, but I feel that the new material is more extrovert. The songs step out and approach the listener, wanting to tell their story”, says Halapi.
In 2020, the mysterious singer continues the “Sunrise” tour and performs at Sello Hall with her long-time band.
