The City organises architectural competitions for the design of notable public buildings. The purpose of these competitions is to find the architecturally, functionally or aesthetically highest-quality design for an individual building or larger building complex. The aim is to discover new perspectives to urban design, in addition to which the competitions make it possible to compare multiple different options.
Architectural competitions can be organised as public competitions that are open to everyone or as invitational competitions. The rules, boundary conditions for design and any remuneration paid to participants of each competition are specified in the competition programme.
The winner of each competition is selected by a separately named competition jury. Competition entries are almost always presented to the jury anonymously to ensure equality. Competition entries may also be published so that they can be commented on by the public.
There are no architectural or urban design competitions currently underway.
