The new maritime residential area of Finnoo in Espoo will focus on sustainable and energy-efficient solutions. Plots for building wooden apartment buildings can now be applied for near the future Kaitaa metro station.
The plots include building rights for a total of 6,600 floor square metres. Three wooden apartment buildings can be built on them. The entire quarter is intended for wooden construction.
Towards a carbon-neutral city
Head of Technical and Environment Services Olli Isotalo says that Espoo wishes to promote climate-positive and ecologically sustainable construction as a part of the Carbon-neutral Espoo 2030 project.
“The development of Finnoo is steered by sustainable solutions in all areas, from planning to energy consumption and building materials. Building an entire quarter out of wood is a practical example of this.”
Builders exclusively chosen for Finnoo will commit to criteria that promote energy efficiency, such as measuring the energy consumption of their buildings.
The buildings on the plots being applied for must primarily involve privately financed and owner-occupied apartments. The plots will be conveyed primarily through sales, and the plot conveyance will be decided on by the Espoo City Board’s Business and Competitiveness Subcommittee. The plot application will be open until 28 August 2020.

The appeal of Finnoo involves the sea and the metro
By the end of the 2030s, Finnoo will have grown into a district of 17,000 residents, the strengths of which are the proximity to the sea, local nature and excellent transport connections. The metro station, opening in 2023, will connect the area to the regional and national rail network. The first apartments in Finnoo are currently being built, and new residents will arrive in 2021. The street network in the northern parts of Finnoo is also being constructed.
