Appointments at child health clinics

Child health clinics monitor your child’s growth and development in a variety of ways. Overall development is usually more important than your child’s skills in an individual situation. Maternity and child health clinics are places where you can discuss everything related to your family’s health, well-being and parenthood, for example your family’s resources, parenting, nutrition, exercise, daily rhythms, spending time outdoors, accidents, relationships, moods, violence in intimate relationships, substance abuse and your family’s financial situation. Your public health nurse will plan the health advice that will be given to you during your appointments according to your family’s needs. The clinics also cooperate with other service providers such as family work, family counselling, social work and specialised health care.

In Espoo, child health clinics serve families with children who are under school age. The duration of each appointment depends on its reason.

The clinics are unable to treat sudden illnesses. In cases of illness, please contact your own health centre instead. However, the public health nurses do provide advice over the phone and via the chat service.
